Jude joined Be Caring Manchester as a Care Worker and has since progressed into the Team Leader role. Read Jude’s story below.
When I lived in Nigeria I originally worked in the banking sector. During that time I also cared for my mum’s friend who was a blind woman aged 105 years old. As all her children lived abroad, I supported her with shopping, appointments, preparing meals and cleaning. I would also take her to church as this was one of her passions, she loved going to church. Seeing how happy she was with my assistance gave me a real interest in care as a career.
When I relocated to the UK, Be Caring gave me an opportunity to train and work as a Care Worker. When I was a Carer the office team contacted me and asked if I would be interested in a role in the office, I felt ready for the next step in my work journey and joined the team as a Care Assessor. After working as a Care Assessor and developing my role we decided the best fit for me would be a Team Leader, my current role.
Being a Team Leader is all about leading as an example and making sure people get the best service. It’s more than just personal care, you have to support people to feel comfortable, empowered and involved.
My favourite part about my role is the opportunity I have to relate and communicate with people. To meet new people, from Care Workers, office colleagues, managers and the people we care for – I’m grateful to have the opportunity to make people smile.
I’m being listened to and I believe I’m being heard, we have access to management and senior management if we have feedback, and we are always responded to. One client I attended to gave me an amazing compliment about how I treated his wife and his property with such respect, he even sent an email to my manager to thank me. I see things as just part of my job, it’s good to be kind, but people make me feel special.
