Working for Be Caring

Values-Based Recruitment at Be Caring

At Be Caring, our culture is so important to us. We live and breathe our values, so kindness, compassion, and dedication are key qualities we look for in our future carers – not just previous experience!

Skills and know-how can be taught (which is where our brilliant training schemes come in!) but the fundamentals of what it takes to be an incredible care worker come naturally.

You can learn more about our Be Caring values here.

Qualities We Look For

Like the people we care for, our care and support workers are all individuals, with their own unique personalities, and skills but some of their brilliant qualities include:

  • Being reliable and good under pressure – sticking to time is important in providing good care
  • Good with conversation, as many of the people we care for love a chat and some company
  • Truly caring about making a difference to someone else’s day
  • Having empathy, patience and respect for others

“When you do good.. good will follow”

My Mum and Dad always said that to me when I was growing up. My mum is a retired nurse.

This is why I love to do good for others!

Shift Pay as Standard

Our strapline is ‘Shaping the Future of Social Care’ and as an employee-owned organisation, our colleagues are more than just employees, they are co-owners of the organisation and central to helping us transform the sector. We recognised that in order to achieve this, we needed to value our workforce.

Wherever possible, we offer better terms and conditions to improve the lives of our colleagues, develop and retain good people.  We took the decision to implement shift pay for Care Workers in our Leeds homecare service 3 years ago, employing all Care Workers at their contracted hourly rate for the full time they are out at work including all contact time, travel time, and training.

Across almost all our services we pay colleagues on a shift basis, paying people for the full-time they are out at work. We are working with all commissioners to contract services in such a way that enables us to value our workforce.

Colleague Benefits

We are a people-first organisation, without shareholders and no debt to service, which means we reinvest surpluses back into our workforce, recognising and rewarding their contribution and commitment. Our standard benefits include:

  • Fully funded induction including training, DBS, uniform, winter coat, and mobile phone.
  • Access to accredited qualifications via Apprenticeship Levy (e.g. Level 2 & 3 in Health & Social Care)
  • Paid mileage for drivers (45p per mile) and for cyclists (20p per mile)
  • Annual bonus up to £300 and £25 gift vouchers for birthdays
  • New Starter bonus, Career Development Bonus and “Refer a Friend” bonus scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 confidential advice and support and up to 6 counselling sessions.

We’re an Award-Winning Employer!

That’s right – we’ve won awards recently for our fantastic business culture, and also for our work as sector leaders.

I’ve said this before, but I do love my job! It gives me so much joy to know that we can help someone, give them love, and make them happy.
